In my Maine backyard – the spring sessions (and processions)

In the spring, this turkey held court in the backyard for about three weeks. Early on, I started calling him Showboat, but from time to time he looked more like Darth Vader, so he also became known as Darth Gobbler. He wasn’t the only show in town, and I generally rooted for one of the other male turkeys who had a bad leg and a big heart, but the lady turkey was generally nonplussed. It made for great theater for about ten days, but eventually the backyard “regulars” and I grew tired of the drama and wished they’d just get on with it.
